Chus
The previous article focused on Cham, or Ham, and demonstrated this as an ancient name of the sun. Thus, the sons of Ham are the sons of the sun. Ham was long worshiped in Africa under the name Jupiter. (Ham sub Jovis nomine in Africa diu cultus. Bochart. Georg. Sac. L. 1. c. 1. p. 5.)
We’ve touched upon the fact that the planets’ names belonged to the Gods, and the Greeks were very late to ascribe names to the luminaries. Much of this happens in the 4th century or so BC, and then again the names are shuffled in the 2nd century BC.
In the 10th episode of Inner Whirled, we broached the subject of how ancient languages had no adjectives, thus to say someone was the son or daughter of something, implied that he or she was like the subject. Taylor wrote (Astr. Lect. p. 190.), “These languages had no adjectives, and were therefore driven on a necessity of expressing the qualities of nouns, by the use of other nouns, supposed to bear a relation to them; and hence, they could not designate a righteous man, but as the son of something or somebody that had been supposed to possess a character similar to that which they would ascribe to him. The ‘generation of the faithful,’ and the ‘children of the wicked one,’ were the necessary periphrases to express the characters of persons who were themselves faithful or wicked; but not at all implying the real existence of the faithful and the wicked, whose generation or children they were said to be.”
The next subject is Chus. Jacob Bryant wrote (Analy. Anci. Myth. p. 5.), “Chus was rendered by the Greeks Κυσος, Chusus; but more commonly Κρυση, Chruse; and to Chrusopolis.”
I have a major problem with this transliteration into Latin letters. First of all, if we look at the root and Κυσος and Κρυση, it is similar to the Greek word for dog, which is Κυον. But it is pronounced Kee-on, and best transliterated into latin letters as Kyon. Κρυση would better be translated as Krysi or Christi, given that the sigma (S) and sigma-tau (ST) were interchangeable in the old days. We still have remnants of this in English words like listen, Christmas, epistle, mistle-toe, etc. This is detail is of the utmost importance because it demonstrates that the name of Chus, which we pronounce Cush, is actually Christ, the root of which is pro-nounced Chrees, but spelled in Greek Chres (Χρης), meaning Good, a word that is synonymous with God, also appearing in modern lexicons as Χρηστος (Chrestos), pronounced Chreestos, thus transliterated in modern English as Christos.
I can’t stand Bryant’s transliteration in the following, for the same previous reason, so I included a more appropriate transliteration in parentheses. He continued (Ib. pp. 5, 6.), “His name was often compounded Chus-Or, rendered by the Greeks Κρυσωρ (Krysor), Chrusor, and Chrusaor; which among the Poets became a favourite epithet, continually bestowed upon Apollo. Hence there were temples dedicated to him, called Chrusaoria (Krysoria). Chus, in the Babylonish dialect, seems to have been called Cuth; and many places, where his posterity settled, were styled Cutha, Cuthaia, Cutaia, Ceuta, Cotha, and compounded Cothon. (In citing Iamblichus, Gale spelled it as Χουσωρα: Chousora.) He was sometimes expressed Casus, Cessus, Casius; and was still farther diversified.
“Chus was the father of all those nations, styled Ethiopians, who were more truly called Cuthites and Cuseans.” (Χουσον μεν ουδεν εβλαψεν ό κρονος. Αιθιοπες γαρ, ών ηρξεν, ετι και νυν ύπο έαυτων τε και τον εν τη Ασια παντον, ΧΟΥΣΑΙΟΙ καλουνται. Chouson (Chus) however, did not damage the crown (ironically spelled Kronos). The Ethiopians, and their people all over Asia, then and now, were called Chousians (Cushites). Josephus. Ant. Jud. L. 1. c. §. 2.) This indicates that the Ethiopians were from India, not sub-Saharan Africa, hence the Indian influence and cultural diffusion with Egypt.
But I thought the father of many nations was Abraham? Ethiopia is the Land or Country of Bacchus, which terminates in Chus. I wrote in July’s End with Black Swans, “There are no surviving copies (in full) of Anacreon’s poetry (as far as I can tell), but it is claimed by Eusebius (in Chronicon, Vol. 1) that Chüs (Cush) was he from whom came the Æthiopians. The Æthiopians were the Cushites because Æthiops was Cush, Thio, Theos, or God of the Aether, and according to Anacreon, Bacchus was Æthiopais (son of Cush, son of Æthiops), which would make him Nimrod. Since Æthiopia was another name for India, then India is another name based on the sun.”
All of this indicates an autumn through winter portion of the Zodiac if looked at through the lens of astrotheology.
Canaan
Byrant continued (Ib. pp. 6, 7.), “Canaan seems, by Egyptians and Syrians, to have been pronounced Cnaan: which was by the Greeks rendered Cnas, and Cna. Thus we are are told by Stephanus Bysantinus, that the antient name of Phenicia was Cna. (Χνα, ουτως ή Φοινικη εκαλειτο. Το εθνικον Χναιος. Chna, after all, healed Phoenicia. The national Chnaios.) The same is said by Philo Biblius from Sanchoniathon. Χνα του πρωτου μετονομασθεντος Φοινικος. Chna was the first renaming of Phoenicia. (Euseb. Præp. Evang. L. 1. c. 10. p. 39.) And in another place he says, that Isiris, the same as Osiris, was the brother to Cna. Ισιρισ–αδελφος Χνα (Isiris—brother of Chna; Sanchoniathon apud eundem. Ibid.): the purport of which is conformable to the account in the scriptures, that the Egyptians were of a collateral line with the people of Canaan; or that the father of the Mizräim and the Canaanites were brothers.”
Mizraim
Bryant wrote (Ib. pp. 7, 8.), “This person is looked upon as the father of the Egyptians; on which account one might expect to meet with many memorials concerning him: but his history is so veiled under allegory and titles, that no great light can be obtained. It is thought by many learned men, that the term, Mizräim, is properly a plural; and that a people are by it signified rather than a person. This people were the Egyptians: and the head of their family is imagined to have been in the singular Misor, or Metzor. It is certain that Egypt by Stephanus Byzantinus is amongst other names styled Μυαρα (Myara), which undoubtedly is a mistake for Μυσαρα (Mysara), the land of Musar or Mysar. It is by Eusebius and Suidas called Mestraia, by which is meant the land of Metzor, a different rendering of Mysor. (Ό πρωτος οικησας την Μεσραιαν χωραν, ητοι Αιγυπτον, Μέσραïμ, εβασιλευσεν εν αυτη τη Μεσραια. The first inhabitant of Mesraean land, namely Egypt, Mesraïm, reigned in this Mesraean.) Sanchoniathon alludes to this person under the name of Μισωρ, Misor (Apud Euseb. Præp. Evan. L. 1. c. 10. p. 36.); and joins him with Sydic: both which he makes the sons of the Shepherds Amunus, and Magus. Amunus, I make no doubt, is Amun, or Ham, the real father of Misor, from whom the Mizräim are supposed to be descended. By Magus probably is meant Chus, the father of those worshipers of fire, the Magi: the father also of the genuine Scythæ, who were styled Magog. The Canaanites likewise were his offspring: and among these none were more distinguished, that those of Said, or Sidon; which I imagine is alluded to under the name of Sydic. It must be confessed, that the author derives it from Sydic, justice: and to say the truth, he has, out of ancient terms, mixed so many feigned personages with those that are real, that it is not possible to arrive at the truth.”
Mes is the root of Mesraim. Mes signifies both the midday sun, seen in Mesembria (City of Noon), and is the root of Moses, spelled mse. Raim could signify the plurality of Ra, which would be suns. All of this returns to the system of naming things and concealing information under the sacred script, or the sunscript. Now, ramus means branch in Latin, so raim could be a play on branches of the midday sun, or rays of light. Rahim means merciful in Arabic, which doesn’t trace back to these alleged times, but could come into play if some of this information was fabricated in the early Middle Ages, as I suspect. Through transposition, this would make Mesraim the Merciful Sun.
